I feel like I did myself a huge favor by scheduling the majority of my courses on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This gives me ample amount of time on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays- when I only have 1-2 classes- to get my homework done. I feel better about my productivity when I have huge blocks of time to devote to something. Luckily, I'm putting off getting a job until at least the next semester, giving me a chance to adapt to the new rigors of college. I'll use the study rooms in Arbol as a place to really focus on my coursework, without the distractions of my dorm or hall mates.
The more I look at my weekly calendar, the more confident I am that I will have no problem completing the tasks of English 109H. I haven't over-booked myself, and I'm not a procrastinator by nature. Hopefully college won't change the latter :)
Reflection: Reading everyone else's worries and aspirations for the coming semester, I found out that the majority of us overachievers are having doubts about our abilities to fit all of our responsibilities into our schedules. But as I told Charles, I think that as we adjust to the culture shock that is college, getting homework done won't be such a big deal. Reading Chloe's post, I realize how luck I am not to be burdened with the extra responsibility of a job at this point. Hopefully, next semester will prove more conducive to getting a job.
I definitely agree with the decision to allow yourself to focus on school in these earlier couple of weeks. I am a procrastinator, so I will be worse off than you are when it comes to time management, but I too am structuring the beginning of my college career to allow for me to focus on school first and foremost.
ReplyDeleteTuesdays and Thursdays are my full days too, so my Wednesdays and Fridays are also Mega-Study days. I envy you in your lack of a job. You made a very wise decision in waiting to get a job, as they take up a lot of your time. You have done a splendid job in organizing your college courses and should have enough time to finish all of your assignments and maybe have enough time for some fun too!
ReplyDeleteI too feel better when I have time-blocks that I can devote to one activity, in this case studying. I think your choice to wait on getting a job is great and I actually just made the decision to do the same! It's so important to adjust to a new setting like this without overwhelming yourself too much. It sounds like you have it all figured out!
ReplyDeleteHi Ann Emilie,
ReplyDeleteSome questions:
1. Who in their right mind would ever watch Finding Nemo more than once in their lives? Never mind 3 times in a row. Mindboggling....
2. How did having a Tuesday/Thursday schedule suit you this semester? Did you ever regret that choice?
3. Were the study rooms in Arbol a good place to get work done? Did you wind up using them a lot?
4. You said you weren't worried about finding time to do 109H coursework. What do think now, looking back? Where you right to be so confident? Or did things play out differently than you thought?
Cheers! Sean
